July 13/23 19:49 pm - Ney Takes Back-to-Back Wins at Abitibi

Canadian Junior men's time trial champion Matthew Ney became the third Team Canada rider in three days to don the Brown Jersey of race leader at Tour de l'Abitibi on Thursday. He did it by winning both the Stage 3 time trial in the morning and the short Stage 4 road race in the evening.

Ney, only a few weeks after winning the maple leaf jersey for the time trial in Edmonton, won the third stage, a ten kilometre individual time trial, in Amos by four seconds over Stage 1 winner and Team Canada team mate Ethan Powell, with American Dylan Schroeder (North Star Development Cycling) finishing third at 33 seconds. Powell moved back into the leader's jersey, three seconds ahead of Ney, with fellow Team Canada rider Jonathan Hinse, who entered the stage in the leader's jersey, dropping to third at 33 seconds.

Ney then won the bunch sprint in the wet finish to Stage 4, a 57.5 kilometre race that began and finished in Malartic. Ren Mochizuki (Japan) was second and Hinse third. With the time bonus awarded, Ney moved into the Brown Jersey, followed by Powell at three seconds and Hinse at 34 seconds. Hinse remains in the Blue Jersey (Best Young Rider) and Orange Jersey (Points), while Alexis Bouchard (Team Canada) remains in the Polka Dot Jersey of best climber. Team Canada also leads the Team general classification.
